Introduction

ASSMANG Pty Ltd requires the services of Occupational Hygiene Technician at their Black Rock Mine Operations situated 80km North-West of Kuruman in the Northern Cape. The closing date for applications will be Monday, 16 September 2024.

Job description

Main Task and Responsibility: The Hygiene Officer is responsible for the maintenance of occupational hygiene systems and to provide the immediate supervisor with information to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

Minimum requirements

  • Certificate: Grade 12 (Required)
  • BSc or Related Degree or Diploma in Occupational Hygiene, Environmental Health, sciences. (Required)
  • Chamber of Mines Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental Control. (Required)
  • At least 3 papers in Advanced Certificate in Mine Environmental Control. (Advantageous)
  • Legal knowledge Certificate. (Advantageous)
  • Valid Driver’s License: Code B / EB.
Experience and Requirements: 
  • 2 Years’ Mining and or related environment experience.
  • 2 Years’ Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene practical experience.
Knowledge and Skills: 
  • Support and participate in sub-functional change management to drive transformation and optimization. 
  • Drawing from own experience or vocational knowledge, identify and recommend initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improved productivity and reduce operating costs within scope.
  • Implement and maintain an effective occupational hygiene programme to obtain optimum occupational hygiene conditions in support of the objectives of the business unit or area or section plan
  • Responsible to ensure that policies, programmes, standards, codes of practice and procedures are maintained in accordance with legal and Group requirements.
  • Ensure that statutory plans are in place and up to date.
  • Maintain Occupational Hygiene strategies and systems.
  • Measure compliance to Section 11 and 12 of the Mine Health and Safety Act (Occupational Health Risk Assessment and Monitoring)
  • Measure compliance to the Environmental Engineering and Occupational Hygiene Regulations of the Mine Health and Safety Act pertaining to monitoring and reporting at Business Area Level.
  • Adhere to Occupational Hygiene policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Set daily, weekly and monthly Occupational hygiene targets.
  • Ensure follow up of risk assessment and audits findings, and the implementation of recommendations made.
  • Conduct workplace risk assessment. 
  • Compile report with respect to the effectiveness of control in place. 
  • Conduct Occupational hygiene sampling for all stressors identified on risk assessment. 
  • Report findings and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Record and report occupational related exposure histories.
  • Compile Occupational hygiene stressors report and submit to chief Occupational hygienist. 
  • Monitor the quality of equipment and materials supplied to ensure adherence to safety and risks specifications.
