Introduction

ASSMANG Pty Ltd requires the services of a Metallurgist Product Quality at their Black Rock Mine Operations situated 80km North-West of Kuruman in the Northern Cape. The closing date for applications will be Wednesday, 07 August 2024.

Job description

Implement, maintain and enhance processes and equipment across the BRMO value chain in support of the BRMO quality control philosophy.

Minimum requirements

  • Certificate: Grade 12.
  • B.Tech / Degree in Quality Management / Metallurgy.  (Required)
  • Management / Supervisory Development Programme. (Required)
  • Valid Coder B / EB Drivers License.
Experience and Requirements: 
  • 5 Years Process Plant exposure in mining industry. 
  • 3 Years Project Management Experience / Metallurgical Accounting management / Plant Control and Operations / Metallurgical Sampling and Test Work.
  • 2 Years Supervisory experience. 
Knowledge and Skills: 
  • Microsoft Office (Especially proficient in Excel).
  • Production Management Information System; ERP System Oracle; StarLIMS; Scada.
  • Prepare technical and progress reports as required.
  • Prepare presentations on applicable subjects and effectively present to stakeholders. Clearly explain/interpret technical data/concepts to relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare intra and final project status reports.
  • Prepare investigation and continuous improvement reports.
  • Participate in the team coordination activities by providing input into sub-functional planning, organising and overseeing team activities in order to efficiently meet business objectives.
  • Schedule activities based on calibration status and online analyser operational/maintenance requirements.
  • Continuously provide swift and precise feedback to subordinates and check understanding prior to work allocation and task execution.
  • Provide guidance and advice where necessary.
  • Supervise subordinates’ key performance areas by setting and monitoring performance standards and taking action to correct deviations to achieve the sections objectives.
  • Responsible for managing training of subordinates against development plans and performance contracts.
  • Perform fair and reasonable tasks related to the job and working environment, at the discretion of the Manager (direct supervisor).
  • Manage the health of online analysers. Monitor analyser health on a continuous basis.
  • Ensure analyser breakdowns are resolved in-time. Coordinate planned maintenance of online analysers between key stakeholders: operational teams, OEM, maintenance teams, stores/procurement processes.
  • Online Analyser Calibration Management.  Monitor calibration status of online analysers. Prioritise sampling efforts based on calibration status and online analyser operational requirements.
  • Operational Use of Analysers. Ensure online analysers are utilised effectively and in line with the BRMO quality control philosophy. Enable improved in-shift decision by utilising in-time quality data.
  • Conduct investigations regarding improvements of current processes and existing technology for optimisation.
  • Establish methods and procedures to complete work schedules and coordinates work activities with other Project Managers, Metallurgists/Engineers and Technical staff.
  • Establish and understand client’s needs and objectives for a successful project or campaign.
  • Carries out all the planning, scheduling and coordination required to execute a projector campaign.
