Introduction

ASSMANG Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced and driven Engineer Shaft and Winders to oversee the full spectrum of maintenance and operational excellence across Shaft, Winders and production machinery at Black Rock Mine operations, situated 80km North-West of Kuruman in the Northern Cape.

Job description

MAIN TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a critical role who all engineering activities related 
to shaft winders and plant equipment, ensuring safe, 
efficient, and legally compliant operations. This includes 
strategic asset care, contractor management, and 
driving continuous improvement across high-impact 
systems.
 
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Demonstrated proficiency in the operation, 
maintenance, and fault diagnosis of shaft winder 
systems, including mechanical, hydraulic, and control 
components.
Strong understanding of MHSA regulations and 
statutory responsibilities, with experience in managing 
legal appointments such as 2.13.3.1 or 2.13.1.
Skilled in developing and executing preventative and 
predictive maintenance strategies using CMMS 
platforms to ensure equipment reliability and uptime
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead engineering strategies aligned with operational 
goals.
Manage erection and structural maintenance 
projects.
Oversee shaft winder and plant equipment 
performance.
Ensure full legal compliance (Statutory appointments: 
2.13.3.1 or 2.13.1).
Drive SHERQ standards and safety culture.
Analyse operational data for informed decisionmaking.
Mentor and develop engineering talent.
Manage contractor performance and enforce SLAs.
Prepare integrated performance reports and 
scorecards.
Champion innovation and operational effectiveness.

Interpret operational data, conduct root cause 
analysis, and apply engineering insight to drive 
performance improvements and reduce downtime.
Managing structural maintenance projects, 
coordinating contractors, and enforcing service level 
agreements to meet operational and safety 
standards

Minimum requirements

GCC Mines & Works (Required)
BSc Engineering NQF Level 7 (Required)
National Diploma (N6/S4/T4)/S4/T4) (Alternative)
Grade 12 (Required)
Drivers’ License: Code B (required
