Introduction

The critical role in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our workforce. You’ll lead the implementation of occupational health programmes, conduct medical surveillance, and ensure compliance with MHSA and other statutory requirements. Your clinical expertise, business insight, and leadership will directly influence operational performance and employee engagement.

Job description

•    MHSA Act 29 of 1996 (Section 7.4 and 13(3)(a))
•    Deliver comprehensive occupational health and clinical services.
•    Clinical expertise that requires a forward-thinking professional with strong commercial insight and the ability to align health services with broader business goals.
•    Diagnose and treat a range of occupational and general health conditions.
•    Conduct physical examinations, order diagnostic tests, and prescribe appropriate treatments.
•    Administer vaccinations and manage communicable disease protocols.
•    Refer patients for specialist care when required.
•    Maintain accurate medical records and report notifiable conditions to authorities.
•    Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
•    Lead investigations into occupational diseases and implement corrective actions.
•    Monitor legal and regulatory changes and ensure operational alignment.
•    Optimise internal healthcare processes and support operational effectiveness.
•    Conduct equipment inspections and ensure medical facilities are fully functional.
•    Provide input into functional planning and align health strategies with business objectives.
•    Implement cost control systems and promote efficient resource utilisation
•    Engage with teams and unions to manage financial trends and budget adherence
•    Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
•    Represent the organisation at forums and manage expectations professionally.
•    Interpret health trends and translate them into actionable strategies.
•    Influence decision-making through data-driven insights and regulatory awareness.
•    Champion a culture of wellness, safety, and continuous improvement.

Minimum requirements

•    Certificate: Grade 12 (Required)
•    MBCH: NQF Level 8 (Required)
•    BA Curationis (Advantageous)
•    PG Diploma in Occupational Medicine (Advantageous)
•    Drivers’ License: Code B (required)
•    6 Years in Primary and Occupational Health Care
•    HPCSA Registered Medical Practitioner
