Position Summary
Introduction
ASSMANG Pty Ltd requires the services of a Officer Safety at their Black Rock Mine Operations situated 80km North-West of Kuruman in the Northern Cape. The closing date for applications will be Tuesday, 16 July 2024
Job description
- Prevent and minimize accidents, dangerous occurrences and non-conformances in respect of safety and health standards.
Minimum requirements
- Grade 12 Certificate (Required).
- Diploma: Safety Management (Required).
- Certificate: Trade Test (Required).
- Certificate: OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System (Required).
- Certificate: COMSOC 1 or 2 (Advantageous).
- Certificate: SAMTRAC Mining (Alternative).
- 5 Years Safety Officer Experience in engineering environment.
- Computer Literate (Microsoft Office).
- Electronic Document Management System.
- Information Management Systems – Oracle, JDE, SharePoint, Qlickview.
- SHERQ Systems.
- Resolve problems as they are encountered to ensure achievement against plan.
- Support and participate in sub-functional change management to drive transformation and optimisation.
- Drawing from own experience or vocational knowledge, identify and recommend initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improved productivity and reduce operating costs within scope.
- Conduct legal inspections and report deviations.
- Enforce adherence to Health and Safety standards in the work environment.
- Assist in implementation and maintenance of the Health and Safety Management System; including Contractor Management System. Participate as an ex-officio member of the health and safety committee.
- Attend Shaft and Mine Planning meetings.
- Identify recurring problems and derive creative solutions involving team members or using own vocational knowledge and experience.
- Implement compliance requirements. Communicate compliance changes. Ensure operational plan is implemented.
- Inspect designated work areas, record in log book and report to Management for corrective action. Investigate all accidents, dangerous occurrences and non-conformances, recommend actions and report to the Chief Safety Officer.
- Complete and submit the Rand Mutual and SAMRASS forms timeously to ensure compliance.
- Assist in conducting SHERQ risk assessments and provide input to corrective and preventive actions and follow-ups.
- Monitor risks and take control over affected business operations in order to minimise negative impact and immediately report to Management.
- Assist to interpret safety and health data, identify hotspots/ trends. Conduct root cause analysis.
- Facilitate appropriate action to reduce health and safety risks.
